Woman sexually assaulted

Toronto police are investigating after a 37-year-old woman was robbed and sexually assaulted inside her home early Friday morning.

The woman was asleep at her home in the Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue area on when she awoke to find an intruder standing over her bed.

Police said the intruder then began to sexually assault her, but ran from the home when the woman started screaming.

After he left the victim realized her home had been ransacked and several items had been taken.

Police have not released a description of the suspect.

Police issue 3,336 traffic tickets

A joint safety campaign run by the TTC and Toronto police has resulted in 3,336 traffic tickets being issued to city motorists.

The ‘Take Time to Check' campaign ran from Aug. 8-15 with the goal of raising awareness regarding road safety issues involving TTC vehicles.

During the course of the campaign, police issued 1,745 tickets for prohibited turns interfering with transit vehicles, 1,142 tickets for driving in high-occupancy lanes during prohibited times, 234 tickets for failing to clear intersections, 150 tickets for passing streetcars while their doors are open and 95 tickets for failing to yield to buses re-entering roadways.

Man shocked by hydro pole

One man is being transported to hospital after he was shocked by a downtown hydro pole Friday afternoon.

Toronto police said the man fell from atop the pole at the intersection of St. Andrew Street and Spadina Avenue around 12 p.m.

The man is conscious and breathing, police said.

Police and emergency services are currently on the scene.

OPP shut down Highway 401

Ontario Provincial Police briefly shut down a stretch of Highway 401, just west of Toronto, for a gun call Friday morning.

Officers received a report that someone in a vehicle pointed a gun.

Police stopped the vehicle and closed the highway's eastbound lanes at Creditview Road as a precaution.

It's not known if police found a firearm.

Two people were taken into custody. No charges have been laid.
