VANCOUVER - Eight more people have been charged in the Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver, bringing the total to 38 out of the 100 suspects that police have recommended charges against so far.

The Crown is working its way through the police list and has now approved 26 charges against the latest suspects, mostly men ranging in age from 18 to 26, half of them from Surrey, B.C.

Most are charged with participating in a riot and break and enter and mischief, but 22-year-old Sean Yates of Burnaby is also accused of assaulting a police officer while 18-year-old Arian Anwari of Surrey is accused of carrying a dangerous weapon.

Vancouver police say they expect to make more charge recommendations, adding that hundreds more pictures of suspected rioters will be released over the next few weeks.

The first two people to admit their guilt in the riot have had their cases delayed by legal arguments over the government's plan to have TV cameras in the courtrooms.

Former beauty queen contestant Sophie Laboissonniere (La-BWOS'-en-air) is accused of break and enter and taking part in a riot, while Ryan Dickinson is charged with participating in a riot and breach of recognizance related to a previous assault charge.
