WUHAN, China -- It was closer than their Wimbledon final, but an injured Eugenie Bouchard fell again to Petra Kvitova, this time in the inaugural Wuhan Open final in China.

The rising star from Westmount, Quebec was defeated in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Bouchard had said she would be looking to avenge this year's Wimbledon final, which Kvitova dominated 6-3, 6-0 in just 55 minutes, making it the most lopsided championship match at the All England Club in two decades.

And though she lost, Bouchard did make her Czech opponent work a lot harder in capturing her third title of the year.

Kvitova broke early in the second set to go up 2-0, but seemed to lose her rhythm after Bouchard injured her finger during a rally and began mixing up the pace on her shots. Kvitova was broken while serving for the match at 5-2, but quickly recovered to put the match away.

With the victory, Kvitova secured her spot at the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore, joining Serena Williams, Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova.
