A man is in life-threatening condition in hospital after being shot near St. Clair Avenue and Old Weston Road on Thursday morning, Toronto police say.

He is the third person to be shot in Toronto in a span of about eight hours.

EMS officials told CP24 the victim, believed to be about 20 years old, was shot once in the abdomen. Police are investigating whether he was also assaulted because the man suffered head injuries, in addition to a gunshot wound.

The man was rushed to St. Michael's Hospital after he was shot in the 1700 block of St. Clair Avenue West at about 4:20 a.m.

No one has been arrested.

Motorists should avoid the area because of some road closures that may be in effect for several hours.

St. Clair Avenue West is closed in both directions between Old Weston Road and Spring Grove Avenue for a police investigation.

The 512 St. Clair streetcars are turning back at Lansdowne because of the closure, and shuttle buses are running, the TTC said. The 41 Keele buses are diverting in both directions via Weston and Rogers roads.

Sections of Old Weston Road are closed at St. Clair Avenue West.

Police are asking anyone who may have heard or seen anything near St. Clair Avenue West and Old Weston Road between 4 a.m. and 4:20 a.m. to call investigators at 416-808-1100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
