With 10 days to go until Christmas, Toronto flirted with a temperature record today.

The mercury hit 13.8 C at Pearson International Airport, just 0.6 degrees short of the Dec. 15 record set in 1975.

"We are really into fall mode when it should be like winter," Environment Canada Climatologist David Phillips told CP24.

Phillips added that temperatures will stay above freezing for the foreseeable future with the chances of a white Christmas narrowing with every passing day.

"On average by the first day of winter we would have had about 30 centimeters of snow," Phillips said. "So far we've had less than three centimeters."

Winter officially begins next Thursday.
