CP24.com readers were asked to share their Remembrance Day stories with us, whether they participated in the war or grew up with a loved one in service. These are their memories and the photos that have defined their experience.

Memories

A tradition that our family does each year is that we attend the Memorial Service to celebrate and remember the veterans who served in the wars. After the service we go to the grave yard with my brother and his friend who belong to the Legion and are pipers. We attend the grave of our parents and the pipers will pipe my parents favorite songs.

After that another person reads the Lest We Forget poem and then we put our poppies on their grave. At that point we have a little shot of scotch and salute them. The problem with this is that people are dying and there are more and more people each year to remember and toast. We almost need a designated driveyard to get out of the grave yard!

We have been doing this for over 17 years and it is a great tradition for my family. This all takes place in North Bay and since I live out of town I make the trek home just to be part of this and remember. A small thing considering what others have given.

Both my parents were involved in the war, my father being on the front line and my mother in the air force. They taught us that Remembrance Day should be a day of reflection. In the early days we always went to the service with them. We honor them to continue the tradition.

Thanks for hearing my story.
