RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's suspended President Dilma Rousseff says leaked audio recordings show that the effort to oust her is aimed at stopping a sprawling corruption probe that has implicated numerous leading politicians and businessmen.

In an interview published Sunday, Rousseff tells the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper that revelation of the recordings gives her hope of returning to office.

Records of three politicians who pushed for her impeachment show them appearing to link her ouster to attempts to limit the investigation. Those involved have denied that interpretation.

Rousseff has been suspended pending an impeachment trial in the Senate. Her former Vice-President Michel Temer is serving as interim leader.
