The mother of a 16-year-old severely disabled girl has been charged with manslaughter in connection with her daughter's death.

Cynara Ali died February 21, 2011 after collapsing inside her Malvern home. She was rushed to hospital without a pulse and died soon afterwards.

At the time, her mother Cindy Ann Sherry Ali told police that Cynara lost consciousness during a home invasion, in which two masked men forced their way inside the family residence demanding she hand over a package.

According to Ali's story, the men rummaged through drawers looking for something specific but fled once they realized they had the wrong address.

Police continued to investigate the case and on Thursday, investigators arrested and charged Cindy Ali, 41, with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide necessities of life, attempt to obstruct justice, public mischief and two counts of fabricating evidence.

In a news release issued Friday, police said they would not release Cynara's cause of death as the matter is currently before the courts.
