A baby girl made an unexpected entry into the world on Thursday morning, when she was born in the back seat of an SUV on Eglinton Avenue, near Highway 403.

A couple was on their way to Credit Valley Hospital when a Roxanne Henry started to give birth in the back seat at about 5:15 a.m., police say.

"It happened so fast," recalls new dad Kwasi Agyeman. "This morning she was having contractions, but I don't think it was contractions. I was like ‘Just sleep' because I was tired," he says.

Emergency crews were called at the roadside and an ambulance arrived soon after to help.

Mom and the new girl, Mya, are reported to be doing well.
