Seven people have been charged following reports of narcotics trafficking and “lawless public behaviour” in Mississauga’s Cooksville area, say police.

In late November, Peel Regional Police’s (PRP) 12 Division Community Incident Response Team (CIRT) launched Project Due Diligence after receiving a number of complaints from community members about “illegal activity” in the vicinity of Hurontario and Dundas streets.

“These issues which have contributed to increased incidents involving violence have had significant impacts on local businesses and community members,” police said in a release.

Supt. Harry Dhillon of 12 Division, said the project has allowed police to “build relationships with local residents and businesses to ensure we keep an open dialogue of the concerns they are facing.”

As a result, officers executed several search warrants during which they seized large quantities of illegal cannabis and suspected cocaine as well as more than $50,000 dollars in cash, PRP said.

Seven suspects were subsequently arrested and charged with multiple related offences.

The accused are Mississauga residents Kingsley Kelly, 56; Kyle Williams, 22; John-Ross Harris, 38; Amir Abuhmaid, 25; and Craig Dhu, 31 as well as 35-year-old Glenroy Neubie and 32-year-old Ralph Nembhard, both of Brampton.

Police said the accused are subject to court ordered conditions, which prohibit them from being within a significant distance of the Hurontario-Dundas Street area.

Anyone with further information related to these individuals or this investigation is asked to contact PRP’s 12 Division CIRT at 905-453-2121, ext. 1200, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
