One suspect is facing a first-degree murder charge, and another is still outstanding following a deadly shooting in Vaughan last summer.

York Regional Police announced the arrest Wednesday in connection with the Aug. 9 shooting, which took place at a residence near Islington and Kiloran avenues, north of Highway 7.

Officers were called to the home just after 2 p.m. for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, police said, they found a man in his driveway suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim, later identified as 57-year-old Jorge-Ivan Navas, was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It’s alleged that, at the time of the shooting, two suspects pulled up to the home in what police said was a stolen Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The truck has since been recovered and police now say that 33-year-old Barrie resident Bradley Johnston is facing a first-degree murder charge.

Police did not release a description of the outstanding suspect and haven’t said what may have motivated what investigators are calling a targeted shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contract the homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
