A woman who was arrested last month following the theft of a horse is now facing new charges following a separate investigation that police say is also linked to the equine industry.
Halton Regional Police Service say the woman was initially arrested in April and charged with multiple offences after allegedly stealing a horse in Milton.
While on probation in May, investigators allege the same suspect arranged to meet a victim under false pretenses in order to obtain confidential information.
Accused used alias ‘Hailey Wood’: police
Police say the woman used the alias “Hailey Wood” for the purpose of obtaining the information, alleging she also contacted schools associated with the victim in an attempt to obtain confidential information.
It is not clear what information the woman was trying to obtain.
Police were contacted after the victim became suspicious.
Karly Tripp, 30, of Waterdown, Ont., has been charged with criminal harassment and failure to comply with a release order in connection with the investigation.
In April, she was also charged with multiple offences, including theft over $5,000, fraudulently taking cattle, and injuring or endangering animals.
In a news release, police said that “both investigations and the subsequent charges are related to the equine industry” and investigators believe the suspect ”may be involved in similar occurrences throughout the GTA.”
Investigators encourage anyone that believes they have been targeted to “contact their local police service,” the release notes.
