Police say bones discovered near Barrie’s downtown on Friday are believed to be human.
The discovery was made in the afternoon in the area of Berczy and Penetang streets after a worker came across the unusual sight and called 911.
Police cordoned off the scene and began an investigation, noting at the time that it was too early to confirm whether the remains were human.

On Monday, officers said the bones were sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto for analysis. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in the afternoon as investigators work to determine the identity.
Police say the investigation is ongoing at this time.
The area remains partially closed, with east and west walking path entrances at Berczy Park still blocked off to the public.
