Published:

York police say several GTA police forces seized 260 kgs of cocaine as part of 'Project Golden Frog.'

Police have seized an estimated $20 million worth of cocaine and $2.5 million in cash after becoming aware of a trafficking investigation with roots in Panama.

In May 2026, an investigation dubbed “Project Golden Frog” was launched after Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers intercepted a shipment from Panama believed to contain a large quantity of cocaine.

From there, the CBSA contacted York Regional Police and linked the shipment to a suspect with ties to the City of Kitchener, Ont.

On June 11, police executed a search warrant at a residence and storage locker in Kitchener. As a result, police arrested three people, and investigators seized goods under the Proceeds of Crime Act and $2.5 million in cash.

On June 17, police obtained additional search warrants at a business, residence and storage locker. Police arrested two more suspects, and recovered hundreds of kilograms of cocaine along with additional cash.

On June 23, police arrested the final suspect.

In total, police seized 260 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $20 million, along with millions of dollars in cash.
