A driver from Burlington is facing several charges after they were pulled over for allegedly speeding at 138 km/h in a 60 km/h area.
The Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the driver was stopped near Tillsonburg on July 5 around 6 p.m. While the officer was speaking with the driver, they learned the vehicle’s speedometer did not work.
“You don’t need to be a mechanic to know when certain things about your vehicle are not working correctly,” the OPP said in a social media post. “It’s the driver’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their vehicle, for their safety and the safety of everyone else on Oxford County roads.”
The 40-year-old from Burlington was charged with stunt driving, careless driving, speeding at 138 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone, and operating an unsafe motor vehicle.
The driver was also asked to take a roadside impairment test. They registered in the “alert” range.
The vehicle’s plates were seized and the vehicle was classified as “unfit” for the road. It will be impounded for 14 days. Meanwhile, the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days for stunt driving and 7 days for the roadside impairment test result.
