There was a new face mooseying around Collingwood Tuesday morning, bringing a little bit of the wild into town.
A moose police jokingly nicknamed “Elliot Moose” was spotted roaming waterfront trails and nearby streets, drawing plenty of attention from the community.
The Collingwood Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued a warning earlier in the day, reminding the public that while the unexpected visitor may have been a sight to see, he was best admired from a distance.
Officers urged people to be aware of their surroundings and use caution if they encountered the wild animal.
The community was asked to keep dogs leashed, avoid approaching or feeding the moose and maintain a safe distance.
Police noted that moose are wild animals and can be unpredictable, especially if they feel threatened.
Shortly after 1 p.m., OPP announced that Elliot Moose had been safely and successfully captured.
The animal is now being relocated to a more suitable habitat farther north with assistance from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
