A residential highrise building in Brampton was evacuated for several hours Monday as crews dealt with a two-alarm fire.

Firefighters were called to an active fire at a building on Lisa Street, in the area of Clark Boulevard and Dixie Road, shortly after 2 p.m.

At around 2:45 p.m., Peel police said the building was being evacuated.

Peel Paramedic Services said they assessed two people at the scene for minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported.

Transit buses were brought in to provide shelter for those who had to leave their homes.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze from the exterior. One unit was damaged by the fire.

The city is working to find alternative accommodations for the resident from that unit. All other residents have been allowed to return to their units.

There is no word so far as to how the fire started.
