The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced Saturday a recall on Sweet Cream brand mini patisserie, including trays of tarts, small cakes and other baked goods, due to risks of salmonella contamination.

‘Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products," the notice from the agency read. “Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.”

According to information released by the agency, affected confections include berry tarts, eclairs, cakes and cannoli, among others.

Products under the recall include those sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec, and possibly elsewhere in Canada, with best-before dates between June 17 and Nov. 15, 2025, inclusive. The CFIA warns that products may have been served by store clerks in different packaging, which may not display the same product information such as names, brands or dates.

Consumers are advised to check whether they are in possession of recalled products, and to dispose of the affected goods, or return them at their place of purchase. Those unsure of whether they have purchased recalled goods should contact their retailer for more information.

Anyone who believes they have become sick as a result of eating the recalled treats should seek out their health-care provider, the agency says. The CFIA notes that the recall was brought forth in response to findings “during its investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak,” and that “there have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.”

Salmonella risks

Salmonella is a foodborne illness that can result in serious, sometimes fatal infections, CFIA warns, especially for young children, pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised people.

Salmonella infections typically bring symptoms including fever and headaches, nausea, stomach pains and diarrhea, among others. In some cases, long-term complications may include severe arthritis, according to the agency.
