Search crews have recovered the body of a 35-year-old man who died along with two family members when the group went over a B.C. waterfall on Labour Day.

The Kimberley RCMP confirmed the tragic but inevitable conclusion of the search at Meachen Creek Falls Sunday morning.

“The third hiker of three has been located deceased,” the detachment said in a statement.

The other two hikers were a 68-year-old woman, whose body was found when police were first dispatched to the falls on Sept. 1, and a 35-year-old woman, who was located deceased the next day. All three, Mounties said, were Mexican citizens.

The search team was comprised of members of the Kimberley RCMP, aided by the RCMP dive team, canine team, and drone team. Big Horn Helicopters and members from multiple volunteer search and rescue teams were also called in to assist. BC Ambulance, the BC Coroner’s Service and RCMP Victim Services also supported the search and recovery effort.

“Their efforts and skill have been appreciated by visiting members of the deceased family,” the statement form police said.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
