Mazda has issued a recall on more than 14,000 SUVs over risks associated with malfunctioning fuel gauges.

According to the notice last updated Tuesday, the recall affects 2024 and 2025 Mazda CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 models.

“On certain vehicles, an incorrect fuel level may be displayed on the instrument cluster,” it reads. “As a result, the driver may be unaware of how much fuel is in the tank, and the vehicle could run out of fuel and stall.”

An unexpected engine stall could increase the “risk of a crash,” the notice warns.

Mazda CX-90 and CX-70 SUVs are also subject to a recall in the United States, affecting just over 100,000 vehicles.

The manufacturer says it will contact owners by mail to schedule a maintenance appointment at a Mazda dealership, where software for the body control module on affected vehicles will be updated.

In the meantime, drivers are advised to ensure they refuel their vehicles before the gauge falls to one-quarter of a tank.

For more information, owners can reach Mazda at 1-800-263-4680, or at their website.
