A farm in West Montrose, Ont. is announcing a change to their policies due to persistent pilfering.
In a social media post, Shuh Orchards said around 500 lbs. of apples were stolen from their orchard.
“We’ve had our first week now and we’ve had a lot of fun meeting people and not a lot of fun meeting some other people,” farmer Tim Shuh said in a video posted online. “We’ve had instances of people stealing from us, over a couple hundred pounds of apples now, in strollers, wagons and backpacks.”
Starting this weekend, the farm will no longer allow strollers, wagons or backpacks in the apple orchard rows and anyone picking apples must only use a bag provided by the farm.
“As farmers, we’ve worked really hard to grow [our crop] and we don’t want to see any of it stolen. We’re disappointed,” Shuh explained.
