A 17-year-old is in hospital with serious injuries after a shooting near a park in Delta, B.C., Friday evening.

Officers were called to the 200 block of English Bluff Road, close to Fred Gingell Park, just after 8:15 p.m., the Delta Police Department said in a statement Saturday.

The victim, from elsewhere in the Lower Mainland, was one of a group of high school students visiting Delta for a party bus celebration that had made a stop at the park.

The shooting, believed to be targeted, resulted in the teenager being transported to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

An investigation into the incident is underway, with officers carrying out door-to-door canvassing in the area and calling on the public for any relevant information or CCTV or dashcam video.

A newer model silver or grey Toyota Camry was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting, and police are seeking any video that may have captured it in the area.

Anyone who believes they have any relevant information or video is asked to contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4444 or via email at tips@deltapolice.ca.
