Two Toronto-area men are charged after $1,300 worth of laundry detergent was stolen from a Sarnia business.

Around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, police said they were called after a man was seen putting items believed to be stolen into the trunk of an SUV and using a stroller to cover them.

Sarnia police say they were called to the Quinn Drive business “in response to a shoplifting incident in progress.”

Officers arrived within minutes and found the vehicle with a man in the front passenger seat.

Police said he was arrested and identified, and the merchandise was found in the back of the vehicle.

After checking the man’s identification, police said he was found to be wanted on three other probation orders from Toronto, Durham Region and York.

Police said a second man was still in the store and when he was spotted, “tried to distance himself from the area.”

He was stopped and arrested after police said they had to “apply force necessary to prevent escape.”

He was identified as a Toronto man and was found to be out on bail.

Both men were charged in relation to the incident.
