Statistics Canada has released its latest batch of data on popular baby names, as some of the same chart-topping choices continue to dominate the lists for boys and girls alike.
For the ninth year running, Olivia is Canada’s most popular name for girls, chosen by parents or guardians 1,639 times in 2024. Olivia has ranked within the top 10 baby names since 2000.
As for boy’s names, Noah has topped the list for the fourth straight year as of 2024, enjoying a top-10 slot since 2005. The StatCan data shows that 2,115 baby boys were given the name last year.
Since 2020, more than 20,000 newborns have been named either Noah or Olivia.
Other frequent appearances on the top-10 in recent years include William and Liam, Theodore, Oliver and Lucas for boys, as well as Emma, Amelia, Charlotte and Sophia (or Sofia) for girls.
The list has largely stayed the same since 2023, with only two swaps in the boy’s top-10 (James bumped down Thomas, which bumped out Jack) and Mila and Alice disappearing for girls, replaced by Lily and Ava.
