A snowfall warning was issued for parts of Banff National Park Saturday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada posted the warning just after 5 a.m. on its website.
“Snowfall with total amounts of five to 20 cm is expected, depending on location,“ it said. ”Rain will change over to snow later today and continue into Sunday.
“The heaviest snow will fall today and tonight, with light snow expected on Sunday.
“The highest snowfall amounts are expected over the Icefields Parkway, where up to 20 cm of snow may fall.
“Similar snowfall accumulations are possible over some mountain hiking trails, while the townsites of Banff and Canmore may only receive around five cm.
“Snow is also expected along other travel routes through the Rockies, including portions of the Trans-Canada Highway, which may make travel hazardous.”
ECCC also posted a highway warning for two different areas along Highway 93.
One was from Lake Louise to the Saskatchewan River Crossing, while the other was from Jasper to the Saskatchewan River Crossing. Both advised of heavy snowfall.
