Police say they were forced to shoot a dog that attacked a child in Dundalk, Ont., southwest of Barrie.
Officers responded to a call just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after a report of a dog on the loose on Russell Street.
According to police, the dog bit one child and was attempting to bite another. They say the owner of the dog was unable to restrain the animal.
Upon arrival, the officers tried to gain control of the animal and one officer was bitten.
In the interest of public safety, officers shot the dog, and the animal was later euthanized.
Two people sustained minor injuries after the dog attack, police added.
OPP would like to remind the public to report aggressive or dangerous animals and to avoid approaching them.
