CTV News won seven National Awards of Excellence and four Best Canadian Local News awards from RTDNA Canada, the organization announced Saturday night at a gala event in Toronto.
National awards
CTVNews.ca took home a Breaking News award in the Digital category for coverage of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in July 2024. The team also won the News Live Special Events award for its coverage of the 2024 Solar Eclipse.
CTV W5 won the Enterprise Journalism award in the Multiplatform category for “Our Son The Terror Suspect,” Avery Haines’ investigation into the case of Jack Letts, a Canadian accused of being a member of ISIS, and his family’s fight to free him from jail.
CTV W5 also won the News Information Program award and the Excellence in Video award, both in the Video category, for “Narco-Jungle: The Darien Gap.” The investigation went deep into one of the most dangerous migrant routes to expose how a cartel is profiting from desperate migrants.
Also in the Video category, CTV News won the News – Live Special Events award for special coverage of the funeral of former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney, and the VJ – Video award for its coverage of the Newfoundland fish harvesters protest.
Best Canadian Local News awards
CTV News Atlantic took home a Breaking News (Small/Medium Market) award in the Video category for its coverage of a major snowstorm in Cape Breton. Also in the Video category, CTV News Atlantic won a best TV Newscast (Small/Medium Market) award for its coverage on Remembrance Day 2024.
CTV News Vancouver won best TV Newscast (Large Market) for its coverage of a bomb cyclone on B.C.’s South Coast. CTV News Vancouver also won the VJ Video award for reporting on Vancouver’s worst road.
Teams with CTV News Atlantic, Montreal, Kitchener, Northern Ontario, Calgary and Vancouver also won a combined total of 20 regional awards earlier this year.
