Four people have been taken into police custody in B.C. after illegally crossing the U.S.-Canada border.

According to a statement released by the Canada Border Services Agency, three people were intercepted when they unlawfully crossed into Canada while running away from border officers on Oct. 8. They were caught crossing from Northwoods Road in Washington’s Lynden neighbourhood to Abbotsford’s 0 Avenue.

A fourth person, the group’s driver, was arrested and all four were turned over to the CBSA for further investigation.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crossings remains ongoing.

The incident comes just over a month after police caught five people illegally crossing the same Abbotsford border in just two days.

Spanning three separate incidents, the five people included a family of three and two unconnected individuals attempting to enter Canada on Sept. 24 and 25.
