Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew once again has the highest approval rating of all Canadian premiers, according to recent polling.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has the highest approval rating among Canadian premiers, according to new polling data.

On Friday morning, the Angus Reid Institute released its final premier approval ratings for 2025. Kinew managed to take the top spot, with a 58 per cent approval rating — just two points higher than New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt.

While currently the most-liked premier in Canada — at least according to the polling data — the premier has seen a dip in his popularity.

In June, he enjoyed a peak 68 per cent approval rating, which has trended slightly downward since.

The Angus Reid Institute noted Kinew’s recent announcement that the long-awaited search of the Brady Road Landfill had begun in hopes of bringing home the remains of Ashlee Shingoose.

It also noted Kinew’s collaboration with Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two released a statement noting the Port of Churchill Plus project as an area of national interest, the institute said.

As for who was at the bottom of the approval ratings list?

Quebec’s François Legault saw the lowest approval rating at just 25 per cent (though that did increase by three points). Ontario’s Doug Ford sat ahead of Legault, with 34 per cent rating (down seven points.)

The institute also asked Canadians about provincial opposition leaders. In Manitoba, Progressive Conservative Leader Obby Khan appeared to be in the middle of the pack.

About 24 per cent found him favourable, while five per cent said he was very favourable. About half the respondents said he was either unfavourable or very unfavourable, while 24 per cent said they didn’t know or couldn’t say.

The results of Angus Reid Institute’s premier approval rating is based on an online survey of 4,025 Canadian adults between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1.

Nationwide, those results have a margin of error of +/- 1.5 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. In Manitoba, 353 results were collected carrying with it a margin of error of +/- 5 percentage points.
