Béatrice Picard, Quebec’s voice of Marge Simpson, has died

Quebec actor Béatrice Picard has died at the age of 96.

The Théâtre Duceppe confirmed the news on social media on Tuesday.

Picard left her mark on the Quebec stage for 75 years and charmed francophones for 33 years by lending her voice to the legendary character Marge Simpson in the local version of the cartoon.

Born in Montreal on July 3, 1929, Marie Thérèse Béatrice Picard was also known for her roles in numerous Quebec television series such as Cré Basile, Symphorien, and Les Brillant.

She also had a prolific career on the big screen in the early 2000s, appearing in Isabelle Hayeur’s Le Golem de Montréal, Érik Canuel’s Le Survenant, Yves Desgagnés’ Idole Instantanée and Catherine Martin’s Dans les villes.

She received several honours throughout her career, becoming an officer of the Ordre national du Québec in 2012.

She was also named to the Order of Canada.

Following news of her death, numerous people took to social media to pay tribute

“I remember my Tuesday evenings listening to Cré Basile! She leaves an indelible mark on Quebec culture," wrote Quebec Premier François Legault. “My deepest condolences go out to her family, her loved ones and all Quebecers touched by her legacy.”
