YELLOWKNIFE — RCMP in Yellowknife are reporting a strange case of someone who called police to avoid being arrested.
They say it began when the accused was one of three men who allegedly fled from police in a traffic stop about two weeks ago.
Police later determined the identity of the driver and found out the vehicle was stolen.
When Mounties moved in to make an arrest on Nov. 28, they say the accused allegedly tried to divert them from the scene by calling 911 to report gunshots at a different location.
Police say they were quickly able to determine the gunshot call was fake and made the arrest.
A 27-year-old man faces multiple charges from previous alleged offences, along with a mischief charge for the 911 call.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 8, 2025.
