A number of Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) hats have been recalled, as federal health officials warn they could have mould.

Health Canada published the recall Wednesday for MEC toaster earflap hats in colours neptune and watermelon, with purchase order numbers 0693539 and 0693540 and style number 6029016.

The federal agency said the recalled products were found to contain mould and may pose a health risk to people with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or mould allergies.

As of Dec. 4, the company had not received any reports of incidents or injuries in Canada, health officials say.

The company reported that 548 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between September and November 2025.

Those who have affected products should immediately stop using them and return them to MEC for a full refund.

Consumers who want more information can contact MEC customer care at 1-888-847-0770 and ask for returns, send an email to the company, or visit its website.
