Police in Greater Sudbury, Ont., say they are investigating sexual assaults linked to an illegal after-hours bar on Cedar Street that has since closed.
“This establishment has been shut down by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, however, there are concerns that a similar operation may open elsewhere,” police said in a news release Friday.
“The investigation has revealed that individuals were invited to an after-party at the Cedar Street location. It is believed that while at this location, drinks were spiked, causing increased intoxication with the assaults occurring sometime later.”

Could be more victims
Police haven’t said how many people they suspect were assaulted, or the name of the illegal bar involved. However, they think there may be more victims.
“There may be additional survivors,” the release said.
“If you have information related to these incidents, please contact us at 705-675-9171.”
Anyone who has been sexually assaulted can call 911 if they are in immediate danger. Attacks after the fact can be reported by calling the non-emergency police line at 705-675-9171 or online.
“We understand this is an incredibly difficult time for survivors and we are committed to providing assistance, resources, and support,” police said.
“Drink spiking involves adding substances to someone’s drink without their knowledge or consent. These substances are often colourless, odorless, and tasteless, and may be used to harm or exploit the person.”
Protect yourself
Victims may feel extremely drunk or ill despite not consuming very much alcohol, police said. Blurred vision is common, along with nausea, drowsiness, difficulty speaking or breathing and loss of consciousness.
Other symptoms include feeling unusually hot or cold and changes in heart rate.
Ways to avoid spiked drinks include buying your own drinks and watching them being prepared, never leaving drinks unattended, refusing drinks from strangers and not sharing drinks, police added.
Other ways include discarding any drink that tastes, smells, or looks unusual and using sealed containers or drink covers when possible.
