Two dead, three hospitalized after structure fire in Charlottetown

Two people have died and three have been hospitalized after a structure fire at a multi-unit residential building in Charlottetown Sunday morning.

The Charlottetown Fire Department (CFD) says it responded to the fire on Green Street around 7 a.m.

“CFD can confirm that the fire resulted in two fatalities. Three individuals were also transported to hospital; their condition is unknown at this time,” reads a statement from the department.

A number of residents have been displaced by the fire and are currently being cared for by the Red Cross.

The cause and extent of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation by CFD and Charlottetown Police Services.

CFD is asking the public to avoid the area while emergency crews and investigators continue their work.
