A consumer product recall published by Health Canada on Tuesday says nearly 13,000 units of Tamiya Acrylic Thinner are being recalled in Canada for improper labels and a lack of child-resistant packaging.
According to the recall, the affected products, which are manufactured in Japan, do not meet the labelling or child-resistant packaging requirements of the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
“The lack of appropriate labelling and child-resistant packaging could result in unintended exposure to the products and lead to serious illness or injury,” the notice read.
The recalled acrylic thinners come in three different sizes:
- 10 ml, item number: 81520, UPC: 4950344069361
- 250 ml, item number: 81040, UPC: 4950344996636
- 46 ml, item number: 81030, UPC: 4950344996629
The affected products were sold from January 2018 to December 2025.
As of Dec. 22, the company has not received reports of incidents or injuries in Canada, the notice adds.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled products and to dispose of them in accordance with to municipal hazardous waste guidelines.
According to Health Canada, recalled products cannot be redistributed, sold or even given away under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act.
Health Canada also asks consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product by filling out the consumer product incident report form.
