A Nova Scotia chocolate company has issued a “precautionary voluntary recall” of select products containing pistachio after a nationwide recall of the nut.
The nationwide recall of pistachios and pistachio-containing products has been linked to an ongoing salmonella outbreak.
According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), retail and food service businesses across Canada that could have the affected products include grocery and convenience stores, bakeries, chocolatiers, ice creameries, hotels, restaurants, institutional food services and other businesses that use pistachios as an ingredient.
On Jan. 1, the recall expanded to 333 products, including some from N.S.-based Peace By Chocolate:
- Dubai Style Chocolate Pistachio & Kunafa Bar
- The Peace Maker Specialty Bars - The Harmony Bar
- Trans Canada Trail - Peace Seeker
- Wishing you Happy Holidays from TD
- Our Classic Box - 15 assorted filled chocolates
- Proudly Canadian - 15 assorted filled chocolates
- 24 assorted filled chocolates
- 24 assorted filled dark chocolates
- 15 assorted filled chocolates
- 24 assorted filled chocolates
- 15 assorted artisan chocolates
- 32 assorted artisan chocolates
- two assorted filled chocolates (Dexterra - First Onsite Property Restoration)
- Thank you - 15 assorted filled chocolates (Tri County Regional Centre for Education)
In a news release on the company’s website, Peace By Chocolate said all relevant inventory was placed on hold and there have been “no reported illnesses” associated with their products.
“We have initiated a voluntary, precautionary recall of a limited number of pistachio-containing chocolate products manufactured on specific dates, following a recall action issued by one of our approved ingredient suppliers related to a specific lot of pistachios,” reads the release.
“This recall is not related to our manufacturing processes or food safety controls.”
The company advises those who have purchased the affected products not to consume them and to follow the instructions outlined in the CFIA recall list.
“Peace by Chocolate is offering refunds or online store credit to impacted customers, and our team is committed to supporting each request with care and understanding,” reads the release.
Some of the affected products were sold at Costco between Sept. 7, 2025 and Dec. 3, 2025, as part of a variety pack:
- Peace by Chocolate Variety Packs - Peace by Chocolate Small Bestsellers Box (Costco Item #1949347)
- Peace by Chocolate Medium Bestsellers Box (Costco Item #1949350)
The variety packs each contained two affected pistachio-containing chocolate products: Our Classic Box — 15 assorted filled chocolates, as well as The Peace Maker Specialty Bars — The Harmony Bar, according to Costco’s website.
“To obtain a full refund on the variety packs, you can return either the affected products only, or the entire variety pack to a Costco warehouse,” reads the website.
The wholesaler says no other products in the Peace by Chocolate variety packs are being recalled.
