The Norfolk Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have lifted a shelter-in-place order and made two arrests following an investigation in downtown Simcoe.
Police say officers were called shortly after 1 p.m. for a weapons complaint in the area of Kent Street North and Union Street, where a firearm may have been involved.
The investigation prompted a shelter-in-place advisory for nearby residents as OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit members, first responders, canine services and crisis negotiators were deployed to the scene.
Authorities initially closed Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street and Kent Street as a precaution.
In a video updated posted at 5:10 p.m., OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said Kent Street North remained closed between Union and Young Streets and urged residents to stay inside until further notice.
In a final update at 7:54 p.m., Sanchuk confirmed there were no reports of physical injuries and that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted.
In an email to CTV News, Sanchuk confirmed two people were taken into custody. No further details have been released.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have asked anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122.
