5-year-old killed in ATV crash west of Ottawa

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a five-year-old died in an ATV crash west of Ottawa on Saturday.

According to the OPP, the child was driving a tracked ATV on a property in Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan (BLR) Township. Emergency responders were called to the property just after 11 a.m. when the ATV hit a tree. The child, who was wearing a helmet, was the only person on board.

Police say the child was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then airlifted to a regional trauma centre and died. An autopsy has been scheduled.

An OPP collision reconstructionist, technical collision investigator, and the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP crime unit are assisting with the investigation, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan Township is approximately 190 kilometres west of downtown Ottawa and around 100 kilometres south of Petawawa.
