RCMP’s economic crime unit investigating B.C. travel agency

Authorities are investigating a Richmond travel agency that was recently stripped of its business licence.

Mounties in Metro Vancouver are investigating multiple customer complaints about a travel agency, and are urging anyone who believes they “may have been defrauded” to contact the economic crime unit.

Vegas Vacations in Richmond’s Lansdowne Centre has already had its licence cancelled by Consumer Protection B.C., and CTV News has spoken with multiple customers about their experiences with the business.

The local RCMP detachment issued a news release Thursday, saying police are investigating allegations that customers have paid for travel services and have not received them.

“We know that many people are feeling understandably frustrated and distressed by the situation,” Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Kenneth Lau said, in the statement.

“We want to assure the community that we are taking these concerns seriously and that the investigation is ongoing. We ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation and encourage those affected to remain peaceful and respectful of private property as we work through this process.”

The economic crimes unit has taken over the investigation, and a dedicated email inbox has been set up for customers who wish to speak to police about the business. Emails can be sent to RichmondRCMPEC@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, and should include the customer’s name, contact information and a summary of their experience.
