Small earthquake felt near Quebec-Ontario border

A small earthquake was felt near the Quebec-Ontario border early Tuesday morning.

Earthquakes Canada confirmed the slight movement, measuring at 2.8 MW, at 4:55 a.m.

“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” the agency said.

Cities that may have felt the shake, according to Earthquakes Canada, include Buckingham, Que., Gatineau, Que., Hawkesbury, Ont., and Ottawa.

The area has experienced several earthquakes over the last few decades, including some with readings over 5.0 on the Richter scale.

The largest earthquake in the region was recorded at a 5.8 magnitude on Sept. 16, 1732.
