A Winnipeg man is facing charges after allegedly posting death threats on social media targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney and inciting hatred against Jewish and Muslim communities.
In a news release, the RCMP said its Federal Policing National Security Enforcement Section in the northwest region launched an investigation on Jan. 16 into a user on X.
Police allege the 55-year-old man made online threats directed at the prime minister, as well as Jewish and Muslim people. He was arrested on Feb. 13 and charged with three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
The man remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later this month. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The RCMP said it would not comment further, citing the ongoing investigation and active court proceedings.
