One person is dead and a shelter-in-place order is in effect for residents in Atikokan, Ont., where police are searching for two suspects described as armed and dangerous.
“The suspects are described as male, wearing dark clothing and masks,” police said in an update on Thursday afternoon.

They said the incident began shortly after 7 p.m. when the Rainy River District OPP responded to reports of gunshots in the Don Park area of Atikokan.
“Upon police arrival, one person was located deceased,” police said.
“Police continue to search for two suspects believed to be armed and dangerous.”
The order has been in effect since the evening of March 4. Police have released a security camera photo of the men they are looking for.
“As a precaution, if you are in the affected area, please continue to shelter-in-place,” Ontario Provincial Police said.
“Remain indoors with doors and windows locked, and blinds/curtains closed. If you are outdoors, please seek shelter in a secure location. Others should avoid the area until further notice. If you’re required to go to work, despite the shelter-in-place advisory, ensure you follow the shelter-in-place policy at your workplace.”
Anyone who sees the suspects should not engage them and should call 911 immediately.

“Officers are taking every precaution necessary to resolve this situation and appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Updates will be provided as information becomes available,” police said.
