The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has determined a 29-year-old man has died after an interaction with Barrie police that sent him to hospital with serious injuries.
The SIU says at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Barrie police officers learned that a man was wanted on an arrest warrant.
According to the SIU, when pulled over during a traffic stop around Dunlop Street West and Frances Street, the man, who was the passenger, left on foot and police followed him.
The SIU says there was then an interaction between the man and officers where a conducted energy weapon, also known as a taser, was used.
At that point, the man did not have vital signs so first aid was administered and he was sent to hospital.
Investigators say the man was pronounced dead in the hospital.

This case has been assigned to three investigators and two forensic investigators.
In a release on Friday, Barrie police said a traffic stop on Dunlop Street West between Frances Street North and Eccles Street North in Barrie resulted in impaired driving charges for one woman, 25, while her passenger, the 29-year-old man, took off on foot.
Dunlop Street West was closed from Frances Street North to Eccles Street North for several hours. Frances Street North was also closed from Dunlop Street West to Henry Street as crews remained on scene.
Barrie police reopened the roads around 11 a.m. Friday.
Anyone with information about this case, including videos or photos, is asked to contact the SIU at 1-800-787-8529.
