Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after almost a dozen schools in the Kenora district received bomb threats beginning around 7 a.m. March 6.

Police were alerted that 11 schools in Dryden, Red Lake and Sioux Lookout had received the threats.

“As a precaution, schools in the affected areas were closed prior to student arrival,” police said.

Nothing found during search

“The school staff, supported by OPP detachment members, conducted thorough interior and exterior walkthroughs at each site. No suspicious items were located during the walkthroughs.”

The North West Region OPP crime unit is investigating with help from the school boards affected by the threats.

“The safety of our communities is our No. 1 priority,” police said.

“The public is always encouraged to report any suspicious activity that could be a risk to public safety.”
