Police were called shortly after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to a report of gunfire in the 600 block of Seymour Street in the city’s downtown.
Officers found one man suffering from gunshot injuries at the scene.
He was transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the Kamloops RCMP said in a news release.
The victim has been identified as Emmanual “Manny” Brooks. Investigators released a photo of Brooks in an effort to further their investigation.
The local RCMP detachment’s serious crimes unit has assumed conduct of the homicide case.
“Based on the evidence available at this early stage, police believe the incident was targeted,” the news release said. “No arrests have been made.”
Investigators were expected to remain at the scene throughout the day to gather evidence and canvass the area for witnesses.
“We are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has information that could assist investigators, to please contact police,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre in a statement.
“We are also interested in hearing from anyone with video surveillance or dash‑cam footage from the surrounding area during the early morning hours.”
