Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding visitors to prioritize safety ahead of this week’s Friday the 13th gathering in Port Dover.

The event, which traditionally attracts motorcycle riders and visitors to the lakeside community, is expected to bring increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic to the downtown core, according to Norfolk County OPP.

This year is notable for having three Friday the 13ths, which are in February, March and November.

Police say the off-season gathering typically draws smaller crowds than the larger summer events, but officers will still maintain a visible presence throughout the day to help manage traffic and support public safety.

OPP are also urging drivers to remain mindful of weather and road conditions, noting that winter conditions may affect travel.

Police are reminding drivers and motorcycle riders to follow safe driving practices, including:

  • Driving sober
  • Obeying posted speed limits
  • Adjusting speed to match road and weather conditions
  • Maintaining a safe following distance
  • Using turn signals and signalling intentions clearly
  • Remaining alert and avoiding distractions
  • Wearing appropriate protective gear (for motorcyclists)

Police say visitors should plan for potential delays and allow extra time for travel.

“Arriving late is far preferable to not arriving at all,” the OPP said in a media release.
