Transport Canada has issued a recall for more than 13,000 Volkswagen vehicles due to a risk of fire.
The recall says the transmission ground wire on certain vehicles may not have been connected during production, causing the wiring or other parts near it to overheat.
“Wiring or parts that overheat can create the risk of a fire,” the recall, first posted on March 11 and updated two days later, said.
The model affected by the recall is the Volkswagen Jetta, manufactured in the years 2025 and 2026.
According to the federal department responsible for transport policies and services, Volkswagen will notify all owners of the affected vehicles by mail. The carmaker will advise the customers to bring their vehicles to a dealership for inspection and repair the transmission ground wire, if necessary.
Last year in March, Transport Canada had issued a recall for more than 20,000 vehicles from the same automaker had due to a risk of fire near the engine compartment.
In that case, the engine cover on some of the vehicles could possibly melt and create a risk of fire due to getting loose after service work.
A similar recall had been issued in the United States for 177,493 vehicles potentially impacted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
