A 19-year-old man from Vaughan is dead after his snowmobile collided with a commercial motor vehicle in northern Ontario on Saturday morning.
Ontario Provincial Police’s James Bay detachments along with emergency medical personnel responded to the crash at the intersection of Ontario Federation of Snow Clubs Trail A and 2nd Street in Cochrane, Ont., at about 9 a.m.
“The snowmobile driver, a 19-year-old male from Vaughan, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased,” OPP said in a news release.

Police closed OFSC Trail A in both directions approaching 2nd Street, and 2nd Street between Nakita Avenue and Western Avenue (Highway 579) to allow investigators to examine the scene.
“Please avoid the area and use alternate routes,” OPP said in a social media post Saturday morning.
“Expect a prolonged closure during the investigation and clean-up efforts.”
The roads and trail have since reopened, with OPP advising the area had been cleared shortly after 9 p.m. on March 14.
The OPP is investigating the collision in coordination with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

This was the second fatal snowmobile incidents in northern Ontario on Saturday morning. A 65-year-old from Wawa was killed in a separate collision on Perry Lake at approximately 1 a.m.
