The family of a young woman killed in a hit-and-run in Cape Breton, N.S., over the weekend is speaking out as police in the area continue to try to track down the driver.

McMullen described Reid as a loving and proud mother whose children meant the world to her.

She said her granddaughter had four children between the ages of 10 months and seven years, adding Reid was less than two weeks shy of her 24th birthday when she was struck and killed.

In a news release on Sunday, Cape Breton Regional Police said they were called to a section of the Louisbourg Highway between Kristin Court and Hills Road in Albert Bridge around 11:50 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived on scene, police say the body of a young woman was found near the roadway.

Police said the vehicle involved was not at the scene, adding they believe the victim was hit sometime Saturday night.

Investigators say they have found pieces of a vehicle at the scene and, during an update on Monday, CBRPS Staff Sgt. Darren Barrington told reporters that police are trying to determine the make and model of the vehicle they are looking for.
