A 19-year-old charged in the hit-and-run death of a Barrhaven crossing guard appeared in court again on Friday, as new details emerge about a separate impaired driving case in Brockville.
Xzander Wright had two court appearances on Friday, one to set a bail hearing in the collision that killed 55-year-old Peter Clark, and another to set a trial date for impaired driving charges stemming from last July.
Wright is charged with failure to stop after an accident-causing death. According to police, Clark was hit by vehicle on Monday at the intersection of Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive at around 8:20 a.m. while helping students get to school.

Police say the driver fled the scene and Wright was arrested the following day. Multiple police cruisers were seen at an address near Mary Honeywell School where a black Toyota Tundra was parked in the driveway.
In the Brockville case, Wright was expected to enter a plea on Friday. Instead, the matter is now scheduled to go to trial in December.
He remains in custody and is expected to be back at the Ottawa courthouse next week, with a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said that he spoke with Clark’s widow, Amanda.
“I shared my deepest condolences on behalf of my family and all the residents of Ottawa,” Sutcliffe wrote in a post on X.
“Hearing Amanda speak about Peter was very touching. She told me how much he enjoyed his work and seeing people every day: “He loved everybody.” I told Amanda that the whole community grieves with her and that we are all here to support her family.”
